Where did you meet your Bride/Groom?

Dan and I met online in 2012 and had our first date shortly after. We met at Cedar Court in Huddersfield for a drink and hit it off straight away, we've been inseparable since.

When did you get married and where?

We got married on Saturday 19th September this year. We got married in Huddersfield Town Hall and had our reception at Cedar Court in Huddersfield where we first met so it was very poignant for both of us.

What dress/suit size were you when you got married? (only answer if you want to)

I'm a dress size 28. I'm the biggest I've ever been, but I'm also the happiest.

What was your experience of finding a dress/suit?

My experience of finding a dress was one full of mixed emotions. I'd put off going dress shopping for months and months but by 6 months prior to the wedding I decided I needed to bite the bullet and go and get one! I'd heard lots of horror stories about other plus size brides being turned away from high street bridal shops or not having anything they could try on or having to see it modelled on someone else! Exactly the experience I didn't want. So after a little research I came across The Big Day in Castleford, who specialise exclusively in plus size brides, and booked an appointment. On the day of the appointment I was greeted by Paula who put me at ease instantly. I got to try on lots of different dresses which was great, before finally settling on 'The One'. ( I knew it was because it made my mum and dad cry lol). On the whole it was a fantastic experience. I wasn't made to feel "plus size", I was made to feel like a Bride!

What was your experience of finding a dress/suit?

My 'Big' day was one I will never forget. It was beautiful, full of the people we wanted there most, simple and laid back, despite it being filmed for the Channel 4 documentary My Big Fat Wedding lol. Our reception was full of laughter and dancing and a couple of drinks with our nearest and dearest. My mum gave me away on the day and my bridesmaids were my best friend, my cousin, my niece and my step daughter. The Best Man was my now father-in-law, the usher was my brother (who is autistic and took his responsibilities very seriously, he was fantastic) and the Page Boy was my son. It was a wedding that was very special and personal to us. All in all, it was the perfect day!

Anything else you want to add.

Your size does not define you. What defines us is our choices in life, love, compassion, and humanity. At the end of our lives we do not take our physical bodies with us, what lives on are the people whose lives we have touched and affected. Make that your legacy.
